Director, Government Relations/Public Affairs
Tristan North is director of U.S. government relations and public affairs for Interel, and leads the firm’s lobbying practice in the U.S. In that role, Tristan manages the company’s D.C.-based advocacy team and coordinates U.S.-based activities of mutual clients of Interel partners engaged in federal legislative and regulatory efforts.
A registered lobbyist with over 25 years of experience in federal government relations and public policy, Tristan has extensive knowledge of the legislative process and Capitol Hill and provides senior-level strategic counsel to Interel clients looking to advance their policy agendas.
Prior to managing the lobbying practice at Interel US, Tristan served as lead lobbyist and head of the government affairs team for the American Ambulance Association (AAA), which he continues to do today. Tristan has extensive knowledge of health-care policy, in particular as it relates to federal reimbursement of emergency medical services.
In addition to health-care policy, Tristan advises clients on immigration, cybersecurity, appropriations, and financial-service issues. He started his career with the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services as a professional staff member and investigator. While on the Committee, he was responsible for issues involving monetary anti-counterfeiting efforts, redesign of U.S. currency, and the review of the U.S. banking system.
Upon leaving Capitol Hill, Tristan joined the government affairs division of FleishmanHillard, where he advised and advocated on financial-service and health-care issues. Tristan also managed the political action committee (PAC) for FleishmanHillard, as well as now managing the PAC for AAA. He continues to advise Interel clients on proper fund-raising practices.
Tristan holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He resides in Richmond, Virginia, and is an avid skier, scuba diver, and world traveler.
