Managing Partner, Germany
Markus Weidling is a managing partner at Interel and head of the firm’s Berlin office. As a member of Interel’s executive committee, he takes the lead on group-wide talent management. He has also developed and led Interel’s Public Diplomacy Services. Among his areas of expertise are association management and international cooperation and development.
Prior to joining Interel in 2013, Markus was head of institutional sales and international services at dapd news agency in Berlin. There he was editor-in-chief of the international, multi-language news service, and managed all institutional sales of dapd news services. Earlier in his career, he served as counselor for development affairs at the permanent mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York City. He also was chief press officer and spokesperson of the minister for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin. At the beginning of his career, he worked as an editor and correspondent for ARD and ZDF, two large, public German TV networks.
Markus belongs to several associations, including the United Nations Association of Germany, De’ge’pol (German Association of Political Consultants), the German Scout Association, and Wirtschaftsforum (the Social Democratic Business Forum).
He holds a master’s degree in social and political sciences from Humboldt University in Berlin, and wrote his thesis on political and social change in South Africa after apartheid. Markus is fluent in German and English and also speaks basic French.
