Jim Magruder, MPA, is Executive Director of the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). A seasoned association executive and trusted advisor, Jim has worked in all facets of non-profit management including government relations, public relations and communications. Prior to his service at BRPT, Jim worked closely with DMV commissioners and transportation officials during his ten year career at the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). While serving as Executive Office Vice President, he was part of the senior management team that shepherded passage of the REAL ID Act, which set security and issuance standards for state-issued driver licenses.
Jim’s background has included overseeing technical and IT-related projects. His distinguished career at AAMVA began in 1998 when he has hired to lead the Y2K remediation efforts of the association’s technical subsidiary, AAMVAnet. Prior to that, he supervised an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) project for the Animal Health Institute, a trade association representing manufacturers of veterinary pharmaceuticals. His career has also included serving as Deputy Director for a veteran charity and six years of experience as a research assistant for the Fairfax, Virginia-based engineering and consulting firm, ICF International.
A native of Northern Virginia, Jim grew up in the shadow of George Washington’s Mount Vernon and worked at the historic estate during his college years. He holds a Masters of Public Administration from Virginia Tech and earned his Bachelor of Arts in English/Writing from Pfeiffer University.
