Driving the debate on energy efficiency

3M, the international technology company, developed an innovative system which makes television screens more energy-efficient. Extensions were being negotiated in Brussels to the EU eco-design directive, which fixes energy efficiency requirements for a list of electrical devices. This could hypothetically result in business opportunities for 3M.

How we helped: Interel’s European public affairs team suggested a pan-European approach to influencing the complex EU decision-making process. Our office in Brussels coordinated the campaign. Our French office reported on French energy-efficiency policy. We also approached French experts from government and the environment, and the energy management agency ADEME who were participating in the EU committee procedure. Finally, we approached French members of a European stakeholders’ association (EE-TV platform) promoting more energy efficient televisions and liaised with them, translating position papers into French and having them validated by EE-TV’s French members.
