We were nominated for a Sabre Award for our work with St John Ambulance to get first aid for all school kids onto the political party manifestos for the UK General Election 2015. We targeted politicians and candidates in two different ways – from the traditional angle – with meetings, events and PR to raise their awareness of the potential benefits of including first aid on the school curriculum – and from the online angle.
Working online, we built a campaign website, telling tales of kids who had saved lives because of their knowledge of first aid. Using an online petition, we sent details of everyone who signed up to their constituency MP and their parliamentary candidates. We also showed supporters whether their MP and PPCs had also signed up to support the campaign. Working to capture public support and funnel it towards politicians produced great results and the inclusion of the pledge in all of the major party manifestos.
