This week’s EPod: 12 – 16 October 2015

This week's EPod, 12 - 16 October 2015, from Richard Steel and team.

Welcome to EPod, our regular podcast on what’s driving the agenda in the European Parliament this week.

This week we highlight the 3 main themes on the agendas:

1. Climate change: Parliament will seek to stiffen the Commission’s resolve and ensure a high level of ambition at the Paris climate conference in December – but what role for the 15MEPs delegated to attend?

2. GMOs: ENVI look set to reject as unworkable a proposal to allow member states to ban imports of GM products. Does this let the Commission off the hook or will they be pressurised into coming up with a better solution?

3. Safe Harbour: Civil Liberties MEPs will have the first chance to discuss the Court ruling that the Commission’s decision allowing firms to transfer EU citizens’ private data to the US was invalid.

This week’s MEP to watch is Guy Verhofstadt, parliament’s negotiator on the Inter-Institutional Agreement on Better Regulation.
